About us
Alumni Education: Learning for a Lifetime Alumni Education links alumni, parents, and friends to the University and to each other through a variety of experiences, usually featuring Penn State faculty or alumni expertise. Annual programs include Huddle with the Faculty, the free, football Saturday morning lecture series now in its 14th session; Alumni Institute, featuring faculty lectures during Traditional Reunion Weekend; the annual Civil War Study Tour; and City Lights, a series of educational and cultural events in Philadelphia, Pittsburgh, Washington, D.C., New York City, and Harrisburg, Pa. The Alumni Library is a comprehensive, easily accessed collection of information, jointly created by the University Libraries and the Alumni Association. The Alumni Library contains thousands of pages of the most sought-after information. Grouped under a “Resources” heading, the Alumni Library features quick links to hundreds of newspapers; an online reference desk that includes almanacs, calculators and more; career tools including a worldwide ATM locator, a hiking trail finder, and other useful site links for travelers. The “Penn State Room” section is where alumni can search through historical digital Collegian newspapers, access digital archive information about Penn State sports, read about the evolution of University Park campus, and find a link to an overview of Penn State history and traditions. Alumni Library is open to all alumni regardless of membership in the Alumni Association. However, there are several fun and useful sites within the Web site that are restricted to members only. These members-only sections include ProQuest, an integrated search engine that delivers business, interdisciplinary, medicine, psychology, and genealogy resources, as well as full-text archived newspapers (including full editions of The New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, and The Washington Pos) to your computer without all of the clutter from search engines. There are also two members-only sections within the “Penn State Room”: Penn State antiques show, where experts can evaluate your Penn State antique memorabilia, and an online bulletin board where members can post photos and notices of upcoming gatherings.
